A woman suffering from Multiple Sclerosis has had her dog snatched from her, after being mugged in the early hours in west London. It’s believed that a man has been spotted on CCTV carrying a dog close by after the theft.
Lyndsay Andersson, aged 58, who’s a retired barrister, was taking her dog Leon for a walk when the ambush took place in Shepherd’s Bush Green on Wednesday, February 15.
MS sufferer, Lyndsay, left the 24-hour convenience store, on Uxbridge Road, at around 3am. She was pushed from behind and the thief ran off with the German Spitz, who was still on his lead.
Leon had been living with Ms Andersson for over two years, after a friend recommended him to her to help with the MS.
Ms Andersson reported it to the police, who brought to her attention that CCTV footage has captured a man with a dog at at Londis store nearby but she hasn’t yet seen the footage.
It’s believed that the dog thief ran off across the Edward Woods Estate, so missing dog posters are being put up in the area. An appeal for help has also been put on the Doglost website in the hope of finding Leon safe and well.
Ms Andersson hasn’t been able to stop crying, or sleep since her little ‘handbag’ companion and assistance dog Leon was stolen.
“Leon is well known in the area and local residents will be shocked at what has happened. Leon is not a ‘possession’ and this is not just another attack,” said Paddy Driscoll from Teamwork Training.

Heartless ex-squaddie from Glasgow caught on CCTV strangling duck in London park
The cruel act was caught on CCTV and was carried out in broad daylight in front of shocked onlookers
A heartless ex-squaddie has been caught out by CCTV cameras throttling a duck in front of onlookers at a park in London.
49-year-old Robert Muir, originally from Glasgow, had been drinking all day with friends in the park, when one of them coaxed some ducks towards them by throwing bread.
Muir from North Sheen, west London, was caught on CCTV throttling the duck in front of horrified onlookers in broad daylight, before throwing the poor defenceless bird to the ground. The cameras then capture him going back and picking up the duck and strangling it once more, then he spits on his hands to try and clean them.

The incident occurred last May, as the group of friends drank together in Richmond Riverside, west London. The female Mallard flew towards the group with her male mate after being tempted by bread.
Muir claimed that the duck was suffering and it was a mercy killing but at an earlier hearing, he was convicted of slaughtering a wild bird contrary to the Wildlife and Countryside Act.
He was handed a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, made to do 20 sessions to help tackle his drink problem, pay £300 costs and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
Detective Constable Sarah Bailey from the Met’s Wildlife and Crime Unit said: “Muir lured over a female Mallard duck with food in full view of members of the public.”
She hoped that the sentence handed to Muir would serve as a reminder to members of the public that wild birds are protected and cruelty to animals will not be tolerated.

A man who was traced after CCTV footage showed him pushing another man onto the tracks of a central London station, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Christopher Cole, aged 32, from Queensdale Crescent, London, pushed the 21-year-old victim onto the electrified rail tracks at Bond Street station and then fled the scene but was caught by CCTV cameras, which led the police to him a month after the incident took place.

In the CCTV footage, the victim is seen falling back onto the rail tracks. He manages to pull himself back up onto the platform and is taken to hospital, luckily suffering from no serious injuries as a result of the attack.
At the Old Bailey, Cole pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted grievous bodily harm and was sentenced to 10 years in jail.
The incident occurred on Thursday, 9 June 2016. The victim was travelling on a rail service towards Bond Street and whilst on the train Cole pushed the victim, who had done nothing to provoke Cole. The two men grappled with each other but the victim, along with the help of another passenger, managed to get Cole into a seat.
But moments later when the victim got off the train, Cole followed him and pushed him onto the electrified rail tracks. Cole fled the scene but was caught on CCTV and arrested around a month after the incident took place.
Whilst being interview, Cole admitted to pushing the victim because he was “annoyed with him”.
After sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Langley said: “The victim was extremely lucky to have escaped without any permanent physical injury.”

Shocking CCTV footage shows misuse of level crossings in London and Yorkshire
In both instances, pedestrians were caught on CCTV misusing the level crossing in an extremely dangerous way
Network Rail and the British Transport Police have released CCTV footage showing pedestrians misusing level crossings in London and Yorkshire in the most dangerous way, putting themselves at risk of being struck by an on-coming train.
Both incidents come only two weeks after the BTP and Network Rail issued warnings to the public regarding safety when using level crossings, after a man using one near Leeds was almost killed.
The first incident occurred at the Grove Park level crossing, in Chiswick, west London, on December 22 last year.
The lights are flashing and the barriers come down to stop people walking across but just after they’ve come down, you can see on the CCTV footage what looks to be a male pedestrian, dressed in a Santa outfit, pushing through the barrier and running across the tracks, followed closely by a companion who does exactly the same.
The second incident occurred in Yorkshire on New Year’s Eve at around 6.30pm.
At the Seamer Station level crossing in North Yorkshire, CCTV cameras captured two adults climbing a six-foot-high locked gate. They then pass a small child over the gate and run across the railway tracks in front of an on-coming train, which is just arriving at the station.
It looks as though they were running to catch the train, as they repeated their actions on the opposite side gate before running along the platform, missing the train despite all their risky and very dangerous attempts.
A level crossing manager for Network Rail, Mr Robert Havercroft, spoke about how dangerous this type of action was, just to try and catch a train. They simply had no idea as to whether the approaching train was even going to stop at the station, putting themselves in real danger.

CCTV captures three men walking away after jewellery store raid in London

Police have released CCTV footage of three male suspects they would like to trace in connection with a raid on a jewellery store in east London, which took place in full view of the public in the street.
CCTV footage shows the three suspects walking away from the jewellery store in Barking. They were carrying bags containing £50,000 worth of stolen jewellery.
The police are hoping the CCTV footage will help with their enquiries.
According to Scotland Yard, two of the suspects walked into Turquoise Jewellers, on London Road on Tuesday, December 27 at around 6.40pm and asked the manager if he wanted to buy some jewellery.
The 45-year-old manager said ‘no’ to the two men, who then punched him a number of times over the head and face before tying him up.
The two suspects emptied the contents of the safe and the shop, whilst the tird man kept watch outside.
The manager suffered head and facial injuries as a result of the raid, which he reported to the police. He was taken to a hospital in east London.
DC Andy Davenport from the Flying Squad, said: “We are keen to identify the three men in the CCTV footage so we can speak to them about the incident. We would also urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us.”
All three suspects are described as white males with beards. One of the men was carrying a hessian laundry bag over his shoulder and another had a dark bag across his waist, they were all wearing trainers.
Officers investigating the robbery are asking anyone with information, including witnesses, to come forward and if anoyone recognises the men from the CCTV footage, they’re urged to contact the police on 101, or via Twitter @Metcc.

CCTV captures moped riding phone thieves in London
CCTV footage shows the thieves targeting mobile phone users in the street
CCTV cameras have captured alarming footage of a couple of moped riding thieves trying to steal mobile phones out of people’s hands as they walk the streets of London.
Four people were targeted by the thieves within a few minutes of each other, all of which were caught on CCTV.
Two thieves riding mopeds swiped a phone from a man’s hands on Sun Street but dropped it on the floor. The owner of the phone retrieved it.
Moments later, the two thieves snatched a phone from another person on the same street and rode off with it. Seconds later, the bikers are spotted on Primrose Street, where they attempt to snatch a phone from a woman who was using it at the time but were unsuccessful.
Not satisfied with just one phone, they cross the road and target another person with a mobile phone at the Bishopsgate junction and ride off.
The crime spree started on Thursday, December 29 at around 6pm, say the police.
A number of similar incidents across the City of London have been reported over the festive season. Police are warning mobile phone users to stay alert whilst using them, as they could be targeted by these thieves in a matter of seconds.
“The City of London Police is continuing to target this trend as part of Operation Attrition,” said a spokesman from the City of London Police.
The police have issued the CCTV footage to show phone users what these moped riding thieves are willing to do to to get hold of your phone.

London theft gang caught on CCTV thought to be linked to string of raids
CCTV footage released in the hope of tracing the four suspects
CCTV footage has been released by the police of four men they would like to trace following a string of raids in the Stepney area of London.
The police believe the four suspects could be part of a group that could be responsible for 27 raids that have occurred in the Stepney area, in which local shops are mainly targeted for alcohol and tobacco.
Police have released the CCTV footage in the hope of tracing the men and are urging for the public’s help in finding the gang.
On the CCTV footage you can see the four men walking into the Co-op store, on Middlesex Street, where they grab over £1,500 worth of alcohol and tobacco before leaving the shop. The police believed a fifth suspect waited outside the Co-op.
Detectives from Tower Hamlets believe that it’s the same group that are responsible for the 27 raids in the Stepney area, all of which involved burglary, robbery and shoplifiting. The police also said that some of the stores were targeted more than once.
According to one of the detectives responsible for investigating the raids, the group of men seemed to mainly target local shops who stock alcoholic drinks and tobacco.
He also confirmed that as part of their investigation, they have been speaking to owners of stores around the targeted areas to offer advice on how to prevent becoming a victim.
The police are urging anyone who might recognise the men from the CCTV footage, or has any information that can help with their enquiries to come forward.

CCTV footage plays its part in capturing London arsonist pair
Jailed for starting blaze at care home in east London with fireworks – vehicle captured on CCTV
Jail terms have been handed out to two men who threw a firework into a care home in east London, which left one woman fighting for her life. CCTV images captured at the time of the incident helped the police to track down the pair, which has led to their convictions.
Both men, aged 23 and from Bethnal Green, pleaded guilty to acting recklessly and endangering life with the intention to destroying or damaging property.
At Snaresbrook Crown Court, Aktaruz Jaman Khan was jailed for seven years and Sabbir Ahmed was given a six year jail sentence.

The incident happened on November 13 last year at around 1am. The two men threw a Roman Candle style of firework into the Lynnwood Care Home, Barking. The firework started a fire on the ground floor flat in which one of the women living at the home was sleeping.
Donna Stringer, aged 43, is in a wheelchair and suffers from learning difficulties and receives care at the home.
Donna was taken to hospital and was in a critical condition, suffering from severe burns to her neck and arms. She was affected by the smoke in her room causing internal injuries.
She has been left without the full use of her hands and feelings of discomfort from the scar tissue.
Det Sgt Karl Dines said: “Donna and her family have a tough time ahead but my investigators found these cowards and have brought them to justice.”
CCTV cameras captured a vehicle on the street before the incident throwing fireworks at houses. Detectives were able to identify the vehicle as a BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, even though the CCTV images were taken in poor lighting. After cross-referencing the registration, the police were led to Khan and Ahmed, who were both named as drivers on the insurance policy.
Ahmed was arrested at his home last December and Khan handed himself in six days after.

Edmonton CCTV operators help police to catch criminals
Two separate incidents caught on CCTV cameras leading to arrests
CCTV operators in Edmonton, London have helped the police to track down and arrest criminals in two separate incidents over the last few months.
One incident involved the possession of drugs and during the other, a weapon was found.
The police in Edmonton were informed about two separate incidents during the same night involving three male suspects in the month of November. They were all caught by CCTV cameras acting in a suspicious manner.
During the first incident, the operators had picked up on a group of men stood around in the street huddled up together on Sterling Way at around 6pm. One of the men was then spotted throwing something into nearby bushes.
After a search, the item found turned out to be a knife and a man was later arrested by the police in Pymmes Park.
Only 20 minutes later, CCTV operators were alerted to another incident unfolding on Colyton Way near to a betting shop, where two men seemed to be acting suspiciously.
Whilst watching the CCTV, one of the men can be seen placing a bag under his jacket which he had just picked up from a nearby alleyway. He then walked into the betting shop. The police were contacted and the two male suspects were searched and arrested for cannabis possession.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Public Health, Councillor Krystle Fonyonga, said that their message was simple; those foolish enough to commit a crime in the borough of Enfield, will be caught out by CCTV and arrested.
Cllr Fonyonga also said that they will not tolerate small groups of people behaving in a criminal manner and will continue to work with the police to protect members of the public.

CCTV cameras help to catch London tube station fraudster
The fraudster was planting skimming devices on to ticket machines but was caught out by the use of CCTV cameras
CCTV cameras have helped to catch a fraudster who was attaching skimming devices to ticket machines on the London underground.
The device is used to gather data fraudulently from a person’s debit or credit card when they use it in the ticket machine. Their finances and personal details can then be used illegally by the criminals.
Alin-Cristi Lazar, aged 20, was caught attaching the skimming devices onto ticket machines at three separate stations on the underground Tube network.
CCTV cameras captured Lazar fixing the devices onto the ticket machines and the police managed to identify him as a result.
On April 11 this year, staff from the Gloucester Road Underground Station, in west London, were told that a skimming device had been found attached to a ticket machine. Then on May 3, another skimming device was found on a ticket machine at Notting Hill Gate Underground and a week later a third device was discovered at Canary Wharf.
Captured CCTV footage and forensic evidence at all three crime sites helped detectives with their investigation.
Lazar from Edgware, in north London, pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing articles with the intent of fraud. He was handed a 12 month jail sentence for each count, to run concurrently at a Young Offenders Institute.
Detective Constable Matt Nolan, from the British Transport Police’s Series & Organised Crime Unit said: “Lazar thought he was being smart by planting devices at different stations throughout the network. However, what he did not realise is that we police a CCTV rich environment and were positively able to link him to each location.”
