£10.4 million fines given out by London’s road CCTV cameras
£10.4 million worth of penalties have been issued to drivers in London caught breaking the rules of the road by CCTV over the last year.
Out of the 850,000 penalties issued across the city over the past year, 159,807 were issued by Transport for London.
This number is up by 53,000 from the year before when London accounted for 797,000 of the 1.32 million penalties issued across the country as a whole.
The majority of the penalties related to incidents caught on CCTV such as driving in bus lanes and stopping in box junctions in the city.
Steve Burton, director of enforcement and on-street operations at Transport for London said: “Our overriding focus is ensuring compliance with traffic regulations in order to keep London moving and to reduce delays.”
